Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Launch – Aug 20 Discount
Black Myth: Wukong, the single-player action game based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, achieved extraordinary success when it launched on PC and PS5 last year. Developer Game Science has now confirmed that the game will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2025, exactly one year after its initial release. The game has sold approximately 20 million copies worldwide, a rare feat for a new IP from a relatively new studio.
Speculation had persisted about a possible PlayStation exclusivity agreement delaying the Xbox version. In a recent FAQ, Game Science explicitly refuted that idea, attributing the delay to the technical challenges of porting. “Bringing Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox Series X|S – and ensuring the experience met our internal quality standards – was no easy feat,” the studio stated. “Fortunately, we were able to complete this challenging task smoothly within the first year of the game’s official release.”
The August 20 release date holds personal significance for the studio: the game was first revealed on that date in 2020, and a major Unreal Engine 4 trailer followed on the same date in 2021.
To celebrate the Xbox launch and the game’s first anniversary, Game Science is offering the first-ever digital discount on Black Myth: Wukong. A 20% price cut will apply across all platforms. Steam and the Microsoft Store will host the sale for three weeks starting later this month, while PlayStation 5 owners will have two weeks beginning July 18. This means Xbox pre-orders enjoy a slightly longer discounted window. Exact dates and times are available on the studio’s official announcement blog.
