Honkai: Star Rail Mobile vs PC – Portability & Gameplay

I have a confession: I spent most of this year playing Honkai: Star Rail on my iPhone, even though I own a perfectly good gaming PC. It feels like a betrayal of the PCMR ethos, I know. My rig is capable, my monitor is large, and the PC version of Honkai is stunning—crisp anime visuals, flashy ultimate animations, and silky performance up to 120fps. But whenever I wanted to play, my hand reached for the phone instead.

      The pull of portability

Honkai on mobile let me game in places my desktop can’t follow: in bed, on the train, even during a five-day music festival where a new update dropped. I could also squeeze in a session while walking to the gym or during a quick break. The key is that Honkai is designed for on-the-go play. Unlike Genshin Impact, combat is turn-based and confined to instances, and a single tap can auto-clear battles entirely. That meant I could multitask—watch a video or mindlessly grind—while the game ran itself. The energy system further encouraged multiple daily logins, which was far easier to manage on a phone than by firing up my PC twice a day.

      The downsides of going mobile

It wasn’t all roses. Honkai eats up nearly 10GB of storage, and adding other languages bloats it further—a real problem when my phone is already cluttered with videos. More embarrassing: I often left my dailies until late at night, and more than once I woke up at 3am to find my phone still on, stuck on a battle results screen after I fell asleep mid-fight. Playing in bed definitely increased those odds.
